The time has come ...
... for a guide book like this ...
... that helps families connect with one another, connect to nature, and all the while being active and adventurous.
The adventures in Fifty Classic Adventures range from unforgettable whitewater rafting journeys to climbing challenges scrambling up mountain peaks. From easy hut hiking to challenging slot canyon descents. From super-classic adventures in national parks to remote, isolated journeys in places you’ve never heard of. From guided multi-day trips to do-it-yourself epics.
There are enough adventures, planning exercises and how-to descriptions to get any motivated family outside. Many of these adventures have changed lives forever, either by instilling a life-long love of adventure, forging an enduring relationship with nature or even just creating an awareness of a previous unknown part of the country. Many of the chapters contain suggestions for other trips and/or training and preparation trips, so Fifty Classic Adventures actually contains many more than 50 trip ideas.

Book Status - Fall 2019
With all 50 adventures identified and roughed out I went to some book publishers with a proposal. Although I did get one offer, I received rejections with the following themes: 1. Multi-pitch rock climbing, roped Canyoneering and backcountry skiing/boarding had to go. Too dangerous. 2. In addition, either the book was to geographically broad and I needed to focus on, for example, the Grand Canyon, or it was too narrow and needed to cover the entire country.
I turned down the one offer I had for various reasons and have recrafted the book. Multipitch rock climbing is out. Canyoneering is still included but with a guide and I completely ignored the advice on backcountry skiiing/boarding. I also focused on ten adventure areas instead of spread across the west.
What this means is I don't have all fifty pretty much wrapped up as before, as now they are focused in the ten areas. This means I need to go back out and fill in a few adventures in some of the ten areas. I think this is important, especially for the challenging adventures, that I do them all so I can provide some guidance on the risk of doing them with kids.
Right now it looks like late 2020 for the release of the book.
